Blue Jays exercise 2-year, $21M option on Green
The Toronto Blue Jays are exercising a two-year club option on right-handed reliever Chad Green's contract, the club announced Monday.
Green is now under contract for the 2024 and 2025 campaigns for a total of $21 million.
The 32-year-old had a series of options in his contract. The Blue Jays initially declined a club option covering the 2024-26 campaigns for $27 million, which then gave Green a one-year, $6.25-million player option with up to $2 million in bonuses based on games pitched. After Green declined that, the Blue Jays received the two-year, $21-million option.
Green returned for the final month of the 2023 campaign after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He posted a 3-0 record with a 5.25 ERA and 12.0 K/9 across 12 innings for the Blue Jays last season.
