Cubs call up top prospect Crow-Armstrong

The Chicago Cubs are bringing up top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong to help them vie for a playoff spot, the club announced Monday.

The 21-year-old outfielder is ranked as Chicago's top farmhand, as well as 12th among all prospects, according to MLB Pipeline. He's also the son of actress Ashley Crow, who starred as a baseball mom in the film "Little Big League."

The 2020 first-round pick of the New York Mets was acquired by the Cubs at the 2021 trade deadline in exchange for Javier Báez and Trevor Williams.

Crow-Armstrong is a gifted defender who slashed .283/.365/.511 with 20 home runs, 26 doubles, 82 RBIs, and 37 steals in the minors this season.

The Cubs also activated reliever Michael Fulmer and placed closer Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain. Outfielder Alexander Canario was optioned to Triple-A and reliever Anthony Kay was designated for assignment.

The Cubs enter Monday in the NL's second wild-card position with 18 games remaining.
