Rush: Cowboys 'ready to roll' in 2nd career start in place of Prescott

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush is feeling confident ahead of his second career start in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 28-year-old is starting under center after starter Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury late in Dallas' season-opening 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rush said he believes that he has the locker room's support and the team is set to turn their fortunes around.

"I think it's more about the teammates," Rush said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. "They have my respect. I think they respect me. I think we've got a good group. I think we're ready to roll."

Rush led the Cowboys to a 20-16 victory against the Minnesota Vikings in his first career start last season. He threw for 325 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception with a 60% completion rate.

As he prepares to start for an extended period, Rush said he understands that the Cowboys are attempting to put a poor showing behind them and avoid going 0-2.

"We have a bad taste in our mouth after losing a game," Rush said. "You can't wait to get back out there the next week. We were 0-1 last year, too, though. This is the first step."

Star receiver CeeDee Lamb highlighted Rush's experience in the offense and familiarity with the personnel as an asset moving forward.

"We know how he maneuvers, we know what he likes," Lamb said.

Sunday's game will mark just the 13th contest Dallas has played without Prescott since drafting him in 2016. The Cowboys sport a 5-7 record in those games.
