Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe was hit in the face after losing a fly ball in the sky during his team's 3-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

"It got me pretty good in the face," Lowe said, according to Bally Sports Florida. "It's more embarrassing than anything, but it's alright."

The error allowed the Orioles to score two of their three runs after Trey Mancini sprinted around the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park homer.

Lowe said he lost the ball in the clouds of a tough sky, which he said changed over the course of the game. The 24-year-old wasn't wearing sunglasses but said they wouldn't have helped in this particular situation.

"I don't even think if I had sunglasses on that would have changed at all," Lowe said. "I went back to the spot where I thought the ball was going to be, saw it probably when it got to the apex, then when it started to come down I kind of went palms up there for a second. I didn't see the ball on the way down at all, so it got me pretty good right in the face."

A nearly identical play occurred last Friday when Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox lost a ball in the twinkle of the lights at Fenway Park, allowing Raimel Tapia of the Toronto Blue Jays to hit an inside-the-park grand slam during a 28-5 rout.

"It's a very helpless feeling," Lowe said. "It's more embarrassing letting the team down for something, but it is what it is and we'll come back tomorrow."
