Report: Mets among teams with interest in Pirates' Vogelbach
The New York Mets' search for offense appears to be leading them to Pittsburgh.
New York is one of several teams showing interest in Pirates slugger Daniel Vogelbach, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.
Vogelbach would provide the Mets with a powerful left-handed platoon bat. With Pete Alonso entrenched at first base, Vogelbach could slot in at designated hitter versus right-handers.
The 29-year-old is hitting .228/.338/.430 with 12 homers and 34 RBIs across 75 games for the Pirates this season. All 12 of Vogelbach's long balls have come against righties.
Vogelbach's 2022 splits
vs. P | PA | OPS | HR | RBI | BB | K |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
vs. RH | 203 | .896 | 12 | 27 | 29 | 48 |
vs. LH | 75 | .423 | 0 | 7 | 11 | 19 |
Vogelbach would come at a relatively cheap cost financially. He's earning just $1 million this season and has a $1.5-million club option for 2023 that can be bought out for $200,000.
The Mets are looking to add some additional pop to an offense that's lacking in the power department. While they boast MLB's sixth-best offense by total WAR, New York's 92 homers rank 17th in the league.
