Cowboys' Garrett claims Moore wasn't cut because of anthem protests

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Damontre Moore was released after being one of two team members to protest during the national anthem this season, though head coach Jason Garrett told reporters the move was not due to the demonstrations.

Moore and David Irving, who were both off the roster when the Cowboys knelt together before their Week 3 game, have been raising their fists during the anthem even after owner Jerry Jones said players who he feels disrespect the flag won't play.

After Moore and Irving's first demonstration, Garrett insisted neither player would be punished for their actions.

Moore was active for just three games this season and recorded five tackles with no sacks.
