Giants trade Dubon to Astros

The San Francisco Giants traded infielder/outfielder Mauricio Dubon to the Houston Astros for minor-league catcher Michael Papierski on Saturday.

Dubon was off to a slow start for the Giants, slashing .239/.245/.391 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 49 plate appearances.

Houston acquires a versatile defender in Dubon, who could slot into its lineup immediately with infielders Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena both hampered by mild injuries.

"We feel like we are a little thin in terms of position player depth on the roster right now, and a couple little nagging things over the past couple days have highlighted the need," Astros general manager James Click said, according to the Houston Chronicle's Chandler Rome.

The 27-year-old failed to live up to high expectations after San Francisco acquired him from the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019 for pitchers Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black.

The Honduran hit .259/.302/.396 with an 89 OPS+ across parts of four seasons in the Bay Area.

Papierski, 26, has never appeared in the big leagues. The 2017 ninth-round draft choice posted a .211/.324/.278 line with one homer and 15 RBIs in 26 games for Triple-A Sugar Land this season.
