Laurence Fishburne to play Doc Rivers in Donald Sterling miniseries
A new series is in the works about disgraced former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
FX has greenlit "The Sterling Affairs," a six-episode limited series starring Academy Award nominees Laurence Fishburne as former Clippers head coach Doc Rivers and Jacki Weaver as Sterling's wife, Shelly Sterling, according to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.
Based on the ESPN "30 for 30" podcast of the same name, "The Sterling Affairs" tells the story of Rivers and the Clippers' quest to win an NBA championship amid the downfall of the team's then-owner.
Sterling, an attorney and real estate developer, owned the Clippers from 1981-2014 before the NBA handed him a lifetime ban for making racist remarks captured on an audio recording. His wife Shelly sold the team to Steve Ballmer in August 2014 for an NBA-record $2 billion.
Rivers coached the Clippers from 2013-20, setting franchise records for most coaching wins (356) and highest winning percentage (.631) in his seven seasons.
