Two-time NBA champion Mario Chalmers has agreed to join the Grand Rapids Gold, the Denver Nuggets' G League affiliate, the league announced Saturday.

Chalmers last played in the NBA during the 2017-18 campaign with the Memphis Grizzlies.

He started alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat's back-to-back championship teams in 2012 and 2013.

The 35-year-old point guard averaged 8.9 points and 3.7 assists across 10 seasons with the Heat and Grizzlies before signing with Italy's Virtus Bologna in March 2019. Chalmers then had stops in the top flight of Greek basketball with AEK Athens and Aris Thessaloniki.

Coached by former veteran Jason Terry, the Gold also landed Isaiah Thomas to an agreement earlier in the week before Thomas signed a 10-day hardship deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

G League organizations have been boosting their rosters amid a series of pandemic-related NBA call-ups. As of Saturday morning, 70 players in the Association have entered the league's health and safety protocols this month, with 50 coming in the last week, according to ESPN's Baxter Holmes. A total of 86 players have undergone protocols this season.
