The University of Massachusetts knocked off St. Cloud State 5-0 on Saturday to claim the first NCAA men's hockey championship in program history.

Minutemen netminder Filip Lindberg made 25 saves for his second shutout of the tournament while forward Reed Lebster led the club with one goal and one assist.

Defenseman Aaron Bohlinger's first career goal opened the scoring before Lebster gave the Minutemen a 2-0 lead. Philip Lagunov scored an incredible shorthanded marker to make it 3-0. Matthew Kessel and Bobby Trivigno also found the net for UMass.

Trivigno, who was suspended for the 2019 title game against Minnesota Duluth, was named the Frozen Four's Most Outstanding Player.

UMass' stunning turnaround is one for the ages. The Minutemen went 5-29-2 just four seasons ago and have rapidly ascended to the top of the college hockey world.
