The Texas Rangers have hired former MLB pitcher Chris Young to be their executive vice president and general manager, the team announced Friday.

Jon Daniels will remain with the team as president of baseball operations.

Young made his major-league debut with the Rangers, spending the 2004 and 2005 seasons with the organization. Following a 13-year career with the Rangers, San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, and Seattle Mariners, Young joined the league office as senior vice president of on-field operations.

The 41-year-old was linked with New York Mets' GM vacancy and reportedly interviewed for the job. However, he pulled his name from the running earlier this week.

"All of us at Major League Baseball congratulate Chris Young on this great opportunity to once again join his hometown team, this time as general manager," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. "Since 2018, Chris has brought a valued perspective to a number of important issues, and he has been an outstanding friend and colleague to countless people at the commissioner's office. The Rangers know they are getting an exceptional person. I wish Chris and his family all the best and look forward to his continued impact on our great game."
