Fresh off the Miami Heat's surprising Finals appearance, the team will apparently work to keep one of its playoff heroes in the fold a while longer.

There is mutual interest between the Heat and veteran point guard Goran Dragic on a new contract, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The 34-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent once the 2020 offseason begins. The Heat can go over the salary cap to re-sign Dragic as they maintain his Bird rights.

Despite being moved to a reserve role, Dragic enjoyed an efficient year for the Heat, averaging 16.2 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game with 36.7% shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

However, upon regaining his starter status just prior to the postseason, the one-time All-Star put up 20.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game through the first three playoff rounds, pacing the Heat's offense. A torn plantar fascia suffered in Game 1 versus the Los Angeles Lakers limited his availability for the remainder of the Finals.
