Dallas Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis underwent surgery Friday to address a lateral meniscus injury in his right knee, the team announced.

No timetable has been set for his rehabilitation. However, the Mavericks are optimistic that the Latvian star will recover in time to take part in training camp ahead of the 2020-21 season, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon. A start date for camp has yet to be decided due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Porzingis suffered the injury in Game 1 of Dallas' playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers. He played the next two contests but missed Games 4 and 5 with what the team deemed as knee soreness. Prior to its elimination in Game 6, Dallas ruled Porzingis out for the remainder of the series and revealed he had been receiving treatment for a tear in his meniscus.

The 25-year-old averaged 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds in 57 contests in his first full season for the Mavericks. He was acquired midway through the 2018-19 campaign from the New York Knicks but did not play at all that season while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee.
