Report: Ertz contract talks on pause after Eagles' latest offer

Contract negotiations between the Philadelphia Eagles and star tight end Zach Ertz were suspended after the team offered him less guaranteed money than it proposed in November, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The two sides reportedly re-engaged last week to discuss an extension.

Philadelphia also offered a lower average annual salary over the next four seasons than Austin Hooper's four-year, $42-million deal he signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason, Rapoport adds.

The tight end market was reset this year when the most lucrative deals in NFL history at the position were signed:

Player Team AAV Year signed
George Kittle 49ers $15M 2020
Travis Kelce Chiefs $14.3M 2020
Hunter Henry Chargers $10.6M* 2020
Austin Hooper Browns $10.5M 2020
Rob Gronkowski Buccaneers $9M 2012

Ertz is signed through 2021 after inking a five-year, $42.5-million extension in January 2016. His current deal also gives the team an opt-out option after the 2020 campaign.

The three-time Pro Bowler led the Eagles in receiving in each of the last four seasons. He tops all tight ends since 2018 with 291 targets.

The 29-year-old has amassed at least 70 receptions and 800 receiving yards in each campaign since 2015.
