The Portland Trail Blazers plan to sign Jaylen Adams as a substitute player to replace veteran forward Trevor Ariza, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Portland is in the luxury tax but Adams' salary won't count against the team's salary cap since he's a substitute player, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Adams spent the entire 2019-20 campaign with the G League's Wisconsin Herd, averaging 21.5 points, 5.7 assists, 5.1 boards, and 1.8 steals while also shooting 40.7% from deep. The 6-foot guard was the runner-up in this season's G League MVP voting.

Adams went undrafted in 2018 after a stellar four-year career at St. Bonaventure. He signed a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks last season and made 34 appearances for the club in 2018-19.

Ariza won't be joining the Trail Blazers as he reportedly chose to spend a one-month visitation period with his 12-year-old son during the league's restart.
