WATCH: Classic ⚾: Yankees edge Red Sox in 1978 AL East tiebreaker

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox needed a tiebreaker to decide the winner of the American League East after both clubs finished with 99 wins during the 1978 regular season.

Game 163 took place at Fenway Park on Oct. 2, as lefty Ron Guidry got the ball for New York while right-hander Mike Torrez started for the Red Sox. The contest also featured several future Hall of Famers, including Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Carlton Fisk, Goose Gossage, and Reggie Jackson.
