Lin 'floored' by Knicks re-airing Linsanity games
Jeremy Lin wasn't expecting to see the hottest stretch of his career on a New York Knicks broadcast again.
The former Knicks guard took the NBA by storm in 2012 following an incredible February run that came to be known as Linsanity. But the club had never rebroadcast those games on its MSG Network after Lin left the team the following offseason.
That changed in late April when the network announced it would air a week of programming focused on Lin's best games with the franchise.
"When I first got the call from my agent like, 'Hey, they want to do this,' I was floored," Lin said in an interview that aired Friday on ESPN's "The Jump." "Because with COVID, right now, New York is going through one of the toughest times that it has seen in decades. It is a very, very tragic time. And the Knicks were like, 'Hey, we need to do something to uplift everybody.'
"They have a whole history of footage and games that they can air, and they chose my games."
Knicks owner James Dolan was reportedly aggrieved by Lin's departure in 2012. The Houston Rockets signed him as a restricted free agent that summer after backloading his offer sheet, making it difficult for the Knicks to match. When Lin returned to Madison Square Garden for the first time the following December, there was no official in-arena tribute.
However, Lin said he's thankful to the franchise for filling its programming void with his games.
"I was just like, 'Are you serious? Wow, that is amazing,'" he said. "Even for me ... I'm still recognizing and realizing that maybe the impact that that stretch had on people.
"And so I have so much gratitude to the organization, to the Knicks, to MSG, to Dolan, to everybody for allowing this to happen. Because honestly, I never expected that."
