Jason Pierre-Paul will become a free agent in 2020 after signing a reworked contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports ESPN's Field Yates.

Pierre-Paul, who hasn't played this season while recovering from a broken neck sustained in an automobile accident, previously had another year left on his contract.

The revised deal reportedly gives the Buccaneers an additional $4.4 million in cap space and gives Pierre-Paul $10 million in pay along with an avenue to the open market in March. Tampa wasn't obligated to pay Pierre-Paul his salary because he's on the non-football injury list, according to Yates.

The 30-year-old pass-rusher isn't expected to play until November at the earliest. There are still differing opinions on whether he'll ultimately be able to resume his career, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Pierre-Paul led the Buccaneers with 12.5 sacks last year, his first in Tampa following a trade from the New York Giants. The two-time Pro Bowler has 70.5 sacks over 127 career games.
