The Cincinnati Reds have added shortstop Freddy Galvis after the Toronto Blue Jays placed the 29-year-old on waivers, the team announced Monday.

Galvis has authored a .267/.299/.444 slash line with 18 home runs and four steals over 115 games in 2019. He got off to a hot start after signing a two-year, $5-million deal in the offseason, but recently started losing playing time at shortstop due to the promotion and subsequent red-hot play of Bo Bichette.

The switch-hitter will join a Reds club that's utilized a resurgent Jose Iglesias at short this year but recently traded away second baseman Scooter Gennett.

Galvis has a $5.5-million team option for 2020 with a $1-million buyout.

Cincinnati also announced reliever Amir Garrett will begin serving his eight-game suspension Monday night.
