Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy was carted off after being bowled over in a home-plate collision with Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick during the eighth inning of Sunday's game.

Marisnick, who had just entered the contest as a pinch runner, tagged up at third following George Springer's fly out to right fielder Kole Calhoun. Lucroy had to come up the line to field Calhoun's throw, and Marisnick moved his body to the inside as the backstop made the catch, leading to the head-on collision.

Lucroy received medical attention at home plate, and after being kept on the ground for several minutes he was eventually allowed to get up and walk to the cart. The Angels announced he was taken to a Houston hospital where he'll undergo a CT scan and be evaluated for a possible concussion and fractured nose.

Marisnick appeared shaken after seeing Lucroy injured, and he quickly checked on the catcher before medical staff arrived. Marisnick was one of several players on both teams to wish Lucroy well as he was carted off.

Marisnick was ruled out following a video review, leaving the Angels and Astros tied at 10-10 through eight innings. The Astros went on to win 11-10 in 10 innings.

Lucroy, 33, went 2-for-4 on Sunday and now owns a .237/.307/.364 slash line through 73 games for the Angels this season.

Because the play ended the inning, Lucroy was officially removed from the game when Justin Bour pinch hit for him in the top of the ninth. Dustin Garneau then took over behind the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
