New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres will replace Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe at next week's All-Star Game in Cleveland, the league announced Thursday.

Lowe was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right shin bone bruise one day after he was named as an injury replacement for the Midsummer Classic.

Torres has enjoyed a productive sophomore season in the Bronx, during which he's slashed .298/.365/.543 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs in 78 games. The 22-year-old will join fellow Yankees Gary Sanchez, DJ LeMahieu, and Aroldis Chapman for the trip to Cleveland.

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone will be happy with Torres' inclusion, as he was critical of the infielder's absence when the rosters were initially announced.

It's a disappointing turn of events for Lowe, who got the call on Thursday but suffered an injury on Tuesday when he fouled a ball off his leg. He leads all American League rookies in wins above replacement with 2.5, according to FanGraphs.
