2019 MLB draft: Biggest stories from Day 2
The second day of the MLB draft consists of rounds three to 10. While the majority of the excitement is tied to the prospects selected over the first two rounds, there are plenty of storylines to monitor as the draft progresses.
Here's a look at some of the top headlines following the second leg of this year's draft:
Matthew Allan falls to Mets in 3rd round
The 18-year-old prep star was projected as a top-20 pick, but he bounced out of the first two rounds due to signability concerns.
For now, it looks like Allan will fulfil his commitment to the University of Florida instead of signing with the New York Mets for a pittance compared to his reported asking price of $4 million.
Red Sox land a Navy man
Boston took a flier on Navy right-hander Noah Song with the 137th pick, making him easily the highest-drafted player out of the academy. Stephen Moore previous held that distinction after being selected 300th in 2015.
Song is still a fair distance away from playing in the big leagues, though, as the 22-year-old is set to start training to become a Naval flight officer in November. Song can petition to enter the reserves in two years, and after that, he could pursue his professional baseball career.
Yankees make eastern Canada history
New York selected outfielder Jake Sanford out of Western Kentucky with the 105th pick. Sanford is originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, making him the highest-selected Nova Scotian in MLB draft history.
An AL East sibling rivalry is brewing
The Red Sox selected college catcher Jaxx Groshans 167th overall a year after the Toronto Blue Jays picked brother Jordan Groshans in the first round. Jordan is Toronto's No. 5 prospect, and MLB Pipeline ranks him 92nd overall.
Blue Jays pick a familiar face
The Blue Jays didn't have to look far for third-round pick Dasan Brown.
The Oakville, Ont. high schooler - and top-ranked Canadian in the draft - was selected 88th overall, and it's not the first time the outfielder has been tied to the Jays. He's committed to Texas A&M, which may keep him from signing.
7 years later, @dasani_brown3 is a #BlueJays Draft pick.

Mighty, mighty, just lettin' it all hang out
The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Spencer Brickhouse with the 212th pick, and he lives up to that name.
Brickhouse stands 6-foot-4, weighs 235 lbs, and possesses raw, left-handed power to all fields.
In the seventh round, the @DBacks took one of the most aptly-named players in the #MLBDraft ... East Carolina masher Spencer Brickhouse. Here's a video of him hitting a grand slam to dead-center at the DBAP. One of the most electric moments I've witnessed since being at BA. pic.twitter.com/Qg1U6oRw6T

Other top-shelf names selected on Day 2 include Drake Fellows (Padres), Pedro Pages (Cardinals), Matthew Barefoot (Astros), Gunner Mayer (Phillies), and Cameron Junker (Pirates).
Legacy acts taken
The Red Sox drafted right-hander Brock Bell with pick No. 227 in the seventh round. He's the son of former major-leaguer Jay Bell, who's the manager of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders - the rival Yankees' Triple-A affiliate.
Other sons of former major-leaguers also came off the board on Day 2. Shortstop Christian Cairo (son of Miguel) was the Cleveland Indians' pick at No. 130, while the Diamondbacks took Glenallen Hill Jr. with the 122nd pick.
Top undrafted talent
One legacy player who remains unselected is right-hander Jack Leiter, son of two-time All-Star lefty Al Leiter. He was highly touted entering the draft and MLB Pipeline's 33rd-ranked prospect.
The junior Leiter isn't the only big-ticket player who's still undrafted. Maurice Hampton was considered a possible top-30 pick, but the two-sport athlete spurned suitors to attend LSU.
Other players expected to be top-40 picks still available include left-hander Hunter Barco and shortstop Brooks Lee. Both are high schoolers likely to enroll in college.
