Spooner, Poulin, Carpenter up for PWHL MVP

Toronto's Natalie Spooner, Montreal's Marie-Philip Poulin, and New York's Alex Carpenter were named the three finalists for the PWHL's Billie Jean King MVP Award on Thursday.

Spooner led the league with 20 goals and 27 points in 24 regular-season games. Toronto teammate Sarah Nurse and Minnesota's Grace Zumwinkle scored the second-most goals with 11 apiece. Spooner was the driving force behind Toronto's first-place finish in the regular season.

Poulin tied for second in league scoring with 23 points in 21 games. She and Spooner were the league's only point-per-game or better players.

Carpenter also finished tied for second in league scoring with 23 points but did so in 24 games.

The PWHL's 18-member selection committee voted for the awards. Winners will be announced in June.
