Martin Kaymer wins Players Championship by 1 stroke
After a weather delay of 90 minutes, Martin Kaymer closed out his first win in two years.
The 2014 Players Championship was Kaymer's from the beginning as he led for three rounds, briefly allowing Jordan Spieth to take the lead. Kaymer ended the day shooting a 1-under 71 en route to a one stroke victory over Jim Furyk.
The 17th lived up to its hype as it gave Kaymer trouble, with his tee shot landing 65 feet from the hole after barely clearing the front bunker. He made a 28-foot putt to save par as Furyk nodded in the clubhouse.
A par on 18 saved the round for Kaymer, who becomes just the fourth European player to win the Players Championship joining Sandy Lyle, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson.
Jordan Spieth went 58 holes without a bogey before making up for lost time and bogeying five of eleven through 15 holes. He finished at 10-under for the tournament, tied for fourth with Justin Rose.
