World No. 1 Scheffler among notables to miss cut at Southern Hills

The top-ranked men's player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, shot a 5-over 75 on Friday at Southern Hills to miss the cut by two strokes at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler teed off in the morning Friday and made four bogeys and a double-bogey at the par-4 ninth en route to a tournament total of 6-over. Scheffler opened the tournament Thursday with a 71.

The cutline at this year's championship was 4-over.

It's the first time Scheffler missed the cut at a major since the 2019 U.S. Open.

World No. 5 Patrick Cantlay, who is still in pursuit of his first major title win, shot rounds of 76 and 75 to miss the cut at 11-over.

In a season that already includes one win and two runner-up finishes, Cantlay had only missed the cut at the Players Championship in mid-March.

The seven-time TOUR winner doesn't have the best track record at major championships. His last top-10 finish was a tie for third at the 2019 PGA Championship. His only other top-10 finish at a major in his career was at the 2019 Masters where he tied for ninth.

World No. 12 Dustin Johnson shot consecutive rounds of 73 this week to join the list of notables to miss out. The 37-year-old has now missed the cut at the PGA Championship in back-to-back years.

European stars Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson both narrowly missed the cut at 5-over, while Lee Westwood was at 6-over and Sergio Garcia was at 7-over.

World No. 25 Daniel Berger also exits early this year.
