Mickelson, Oosthuizen share 1-shot lead after Round 2 at PGA Championship
Phil Mickelson and Louis Oosthuizen share a one-shot lead at 5-under par following Round 2 of the PGA Championship from the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.
Mickelson birdied five of his final eight holes early Friday to shoot a 3-under 69 and take the clubhouse lead. The 50-year-old is looking to become the oldest major championship winner ever; with his piece of the lead after Day 2, he's the second-oldest leader at any point of a PGA Championship.
Oosthuizen, 38, managed to get to 6-under for the tournament, but a dropped shot on No. 18 ruined his otherwise bogey-free effort.
Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka sits alone in third after shooting 71 to get to 4-under par.
Here's how the top of the leaderboard stands going into the weekend:
Place | Player | To Par | R2 Score |
---|---|---|---|
T1 | Phil Mickelson | -5 | 69 |
T1 | Louis Oosthuizen | -5 | 68 |
3 | Brooks Koepka | -4 | 71 |
T4 | Branden Grace | -3 | 71 |
T4 | Christiaan Bezuidenhout | -3 | 70 |
T4 | Hideki Matsuyama | -3 | 69 |
First-round leader Corey Conners shot 3-over in Round 2 to drop into a tie for seventh with Gary Woodland, Kevin Streelman, Sungjae Im, and Paul Casey.
Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Xander Schauffele all missed the cut, meaning three of the top-five-ranked players in the world failed to advance to the weekend.
