Scott Stallings: Playing without rakes, caddies 'not going to happen'

When the PGA Tour plans to return to action June 11 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, it's expected that golfers will have to adhere to strict social distancing guidelines, such as leaving the flagstick in and not having rakes in bunkers.

Scott Stallings, a three-time PGA Tour winner, is skeptical pros will play under those restrictions with so much at stake.

"I just don't think there's any way guys are going to do that," the 35-year-old told Golf.com's James Colgan. "Guys are not going to play for their livelihood with no rakes in the bunker and no caddies. That's just not going to happen."

The PGA Tour plans to play the first four events after it returns without fans in attendance. Though Stallings doesn't think that will be an issue, he predicted that having no caddies - or at least limited interaction with caddies - will cause players to skip events.

"I'm fully confident that there are going to be guys who choose not to play," he said.

Stallings credited PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan for having golfers' best interests in mind when creating a plan to resume play, but he said that he doesn't think the return of sports is necessarily imminent.

"I think there's a lot of things that need to be put into perspective before we return," Stallings said. "My feelings across all sports are the same. There's a lot of people that have to get back to work before me."
