Koepka betting favorite to win The Open after Round 1
Brooks Koepka is now the odds-on favorite to win The Open after a sparkling 3-under 68 on Thursday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Here's a look at the top golfers based on Westgate Superbook's current betting odds:
Golfer | Opening odds | Current odds | To par |
---|---|---|---|
Brooks Koepka | 6-1 | 7-2 | -3 |
Jon Rahm | 20-1 | 6-1 | -3 |
Tommy Fleetwood | 25-1 | 10-1 | -3 |
Justin Rose | 14-1 | 14-1 | -2 |
Shane Lowry | 60-1 | 16-1 | -4 |
Patrick Cantlay | 25-1 | 25-1 | -1 |
Tony Finau | 50-1 | 25-1 | -3 |
Webb Simpson | 100-1 | 25-1 | -3 |
Jordan Spieth | 20-1 | 30-1 | -1 |
Sergio Garcia | 40-1 | 30-1 | -3 |
Henrik Stenson | 40-1 | 30-1 | -1 |
Tyrrell Hatton | 80-1 | 30-1 | -3 |
J.B. Holmes | 250-1 | 30-1 | -5 |
Hometown hero Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods began the tournament as two of the favorites at 10-1 and 12-1, respectively. But the two former World No. 1s have seen their odds plummet after playing themselves out of contention, with McIlroy sitting at 250-1 and Woods at 500-1.
Xander Schauffele (200-1), Adam Scott (500-1), and 2018 winner Francesco Molinari (250-1) also saw their odds fall drastically after stumbling out of the gate.
The betting community isn't exactly expecting a wire-to-wire finish for J.B. Holmes, who holds a one-shot lead after the first round.
If Koepka comes out on top, it would mark his fifth major in the last three years and his first time hoisting the Claret Jug.
