PGA Tour won't consider separate rules

After months of player criticism regarding the new golf rules for 2019, commissioner Jay Monahan insists the PGA Tour will continue to enforce rules laid out by the USGA and The R&A.

"We have two fantastic professional governing bodies of the game,'' Monahan said at his Players Championship press conference. "We have always played by their rules and we will continue to play by their rules. And we are not going to be playing by our own rules."

Monahan's support of golf's governing bodies comes a week after he issued a memo to PGA Tour players urging them to provide more constructive comments when discussing the latest rule revisions.

"We think that the game is best served with everybody playing by the same rules and the same standards. We think it's a source of inspiration for the game,'' he added.

Justin Thomas has led the players' pushback regarding changes he calls "terrible." He pushed hard enough to generate a response from the USGA on Twitter. The two parties have since agreed to meet for offline discussions.
