PGA picks: Rahm will power his way to Fort Worth Invitational title

The PGA Tour turns the page from a first-time venue in Trinity Forest to one of the longest-running events on the schedule, the Fort Worth Invitational hosted at the historic Colonial Country Club.

Recent champions Kevin Kisner, Jordan Spieth, and Chris Kirk paint a similar image of the types of golfers who win at Colonial. Elite driving distance is not required to win, but it certainly won't hinder a golfer's chances.

For handicapping purposes, unless a golfer's talent is so immense it can overcome course setup, target accurate golfers who are elite with their irons. Keeping the ball in the fairways to provide optimal approach shots will be vital.

Favorite to watch (odds shorter than 25-1)

Jon Rahm

Forget about course management - Rahm is set to bomb his way around Colonial and leave himself with wedges into greens rather than short irons. It is a strategy that worked for him last year, en route to a tie for second place in his first trip to Fort Worth. With winds expected to be nonexistent, Rahm will overpower his way to his second title this season.

Odds to win: 12-1
Top-5 odds: 3-1

Second tier (odds 25-1 or longer)

Brooks Koepka

In just his third tournament back after a serious wrist injury, Koepka destroyed TPC Sawgrass in his final round, shooting 63 to finish in a tie for 11th. Carrying those good feelings will be critical for Koepka ending up in contention Sunday. On paper, his game doesn't suit Colonial, but based on sheer talent alone, he can lap the field.

Odds to win: 25-1
Top-5 odds: 9-2

Long shot (odds 50-1 or longer)

Adam Hadwin

Hadwin enters the Fort Worth Invitational playing consistent golf, owning a share of the longest active cuts-made streak. In his last showing - where he finished tied for 57th at The Players - Hadwin, uncharacteristically, lost four strokes around the greens. Expect that to turn around and for the Canadian to be in the hunt for his second career PGA Tour win.

Odds to win: 50-1
Top-5 odds: 12-1

Super long shot (odds 80-1 or longer)

J.J. Spaun

J.J. Spaun is a relative unknown on the PGA Tour but is someone who has popped on leaderboards multiple times in his short career, including last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson where he finished tied for third. Spaun relies heavily on his approach game to give him birdie looks, which should bode well at Colonial, a course he believes fits his game.

Odds to win: 100-1
Top-5 odds: 25-1

Bill Haas

Anytime you can get a known PGA Tour winner at 150-1, that value is tough to pass up. Haas, who has six career wins on tour, is a plodder who fits Colonial perfectly. His poor recent form is creating said value, but he did manage to finish tied for seventh at the 2018 RBC Heritage, a corollary event to the Fort Worth Invitational.

Odds to win: 150-1
Top-5 odds: 20-1
