Prior to finishing an even-par 70 in the opening round at the Honda Classic on Thursday, Tiger Woods met with a student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to offer his support.

One week after 17 people were killed during a shooting at the Florida school, Woods signed a hat for student, Kyle Shanahan, who was volunteering at the Honda Classic.

"Meeting him brings you right back to reality, thinking about what he has to deal with and what he's seen and things he has to deal with the rest of his life," Woods told Tom Schad and Steve DiMeglio of USA Today. "It's humbling that he wanted to meet me. But he was out here, wanting to get away from it, wanting to enjoy it, and it was nice to be able to help him enjoy being out here. When he leaves here, leaves the golf course, he has to go back to a pretty harsh reality."

Shanahan, a volunteer at the event for several years, also had his picture taken with Rickie Fowler.
