Tiger Woods' longtime friend Notah Begay III was on the Golf Channel on Monday to talk about Woods' shocking DUI charge, saying he was both saddened by the news and embarrassed for the 41-year-old.

"People in the world of golf are not going to turn their back on Tiger Woods," Begay said, writes Golf.com's Kevin Cunningham. "I think you are going to see an outpouring of support and encouragement for him as he works through personal issues and challenges that many people in this country face."

Begay went to Stanford with Woods, and the two go way back. Begay also mentioned his own DUI charge, over 17 years ago, and how it led to positive changes in his own life. He's hoping the same will the case for his friend.

"It's hopefully something that he'll learn from, he'll grow from and take responsibility for and use it to make some changes," he said.

Woods was charged early Monday morning, his mugshot making headlines across the world. There's been no comment from the rehabbing golfer or his representatives.
