Kisner rallies to win Dean & DeLuca Invitational
Kevin Kisner slammed home a five-foot par putt on the 72nd hole to win the Dean & DeLuca Invitational on Sunday, finishing at 10-under par for the tournament.
The South Carolina native made six birdies and two bogeys for a final round 66, edging Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Sean O'Hair by one shot. Kisner said that handling Saturday's difficult conditions was key to the victory.
"Yesterday was difficult, and I hit a lot of good shots that just didn't go on the green," Kisner told Peter Kostis of CBS Sports after the victory. "And around here, if you can get it up-and-down, and I did that yesterday, it kept me in the round, and kept me in the tournament."
The 33-year-old's short game was on display at the final hole, when his second shot went over the green, leaving a tough up-and-down. After taking a look at the lie, Kisner elected to use the Texas wedge.
"I don't think I could hit it to a foot with a wedge. It was just a gnarly lie, and I knew I could have a putt, if I putted it, and that's basically what I went with."
The win in Fort Worth is Kisner's second career PGA Tour title, but it also means his name will join a long list of legends on Colonial’s Wall of Champions.
"I'm just honored to be the champion here, and to come back every year and see my name on that wall is going to be something special," said Kisner.
Third-round leader Webb Simpson carded a 1-over-par 71 to finish in fifth place, while Steve Stricker had the low round on the day, posting a 7-under-par 63.
Kisner earns 500 FedEx Cup points and $1.24 million for the win.
