Evander Kane's past trade requests no surprise to Jets' Ladd, Wheeler

Winnipeg Jets forwards Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler weren't shocked to hear about former teamamate Evander Kane's latest remarks.

Kane, now a member of the Buffalo Sabres, told Ken Campbell of The Hockey News this week that he asked for a trade from the Jets in all four offseasons spent with Winnipeg.

"He's an emotional kid. I guess it doesn't (surprise me)," Ladd said Tuesday, according to Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun.

He added, "It's unfortunate he didn't feel that way. Everyone enjoyed his time here. We've moved on and maybe he should, too."

Wheeler echoed Ladd's sentiments.

“There's not a whole lot that would surprise me,” Wheeler said.

"Things have been made very public, which is too bad. It's a privilege to be in an NHL dressing room, so I'm not going to air out any dirty laundry of what happened within a dressing room, because that's private. It is frustrating to have to speak about somebody who's no longer with us."

Kane also told Campbell he received unfair scrutiny during his time with the Jets.

"There are a lot of guys I could point to (who) everybody knows publicly who have done a lot worse or been accused of doing a lot worse things than I have, but they don't look like me," Kane told Campbell. "They don't look like me."

Kane's tenure in Winnipeg reached a boiling point after a reported incident with his then-teammates before a road game in Vancouver. He was traded by the Jets to the Sabres in a seven-player deal less than a week later.
