Joni Pitkanen is reportedly contemplating a comeback after almost two-and-a-half years away from the game.
The veteran of 10 NHL seasons - who wore the sweaters of the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, and Carolina Hurricanes in his career - may try to return to the NHL next year, Damien Cox reported on Hockey Night in Canada's "Headlines" segment Saturday night.
Pitkanen's potential comeback will begin at a charity game he will participate in later this month.
The 32-year-old suffered what was believed to be a career-ending injury in April 2013 when he shattered his heel by crashing into the boards while chasing a puck iced into his own zone.
The NHL adopted new icing rules in response to Pitkanen's injury.
