Amanda Kessel's college career ends due to concussion issues
Amanda Kessel's hockey-playing days at the University of Minnesota are finished.
Kessel, one of the top players in women's hockey and younger sister of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil, will not play her senior year with the Gophers, reports Brad Elliott Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald.
Kessel's coach Brad Frost confirmed the former Olympian, who suffered a serious concussion as a member of the U.S. national team, will miss the season.
"It's just not worth it for her and her health," Frost told Schlossman.
Kessel was also forced to miss the 2014-15 season due to concussion issues.
She recorded 97 goals and 231 points in three college seasons before the injury. Kessel contributed six points in five games while earning a silver medal with the U.S. at the Sochi Olympics in her most recent hockey action.
Frost said Kessel may try to finish her schooling this year.
