Report: Devils will not offer Anthony Brodeur a contract
Anthony Brodeur may not get to follow in his dad's footsteps.
The 19-year-old, who was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, will not be offered a contract by the club, reports Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record.
This means that the netminder is eligible to be selected again in the upcoming draft. If he goes undrafted, he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Devils general manager Ray Shero said team president Lou Lamoriello spoke with Brodeur about the decision.
"Lou had that conversation with Anthony today." Shero said. "Obviously, if he gets drafted that would be fantastic, but if he doesn't there will be a spot for him in our development camp and we would love to see him and we'll see what happens."
Brodeur struggled in 32 games split between the Gatineau Olympiques and Drummondville Voltigeurs in 2014-15.
