Report: Babcock leaving Red Wings, Sabres and Sharks out, Leafs 'hopeful'
The plot thickens.
The Buffalo Sabres are no longer in the mix to land coach Mike Babcock, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
McKenzie's colleague Aaron Ward followed up with a tweet saying that Babcock is indeed leaving Detroit. Where he's headed, no one knows. Not yet, at least.
According to @TSNAaronWard, DET is out on Babcock. BUF is out. That leaves TOR, STL and SJ.

However, TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Babcock made it clear to the St. Louis Blues two days ago that he would not be signing with the team.
Keep in mind that the Red Wings have negotiated ahead of time with all teams involved that they pay a third-round pick for Babcock

LeBrun adds that his source says the Leafs are "hopeful" to land the head coach. He also added that the San Jose Sharks were out of the mix.
It's not San Jose, Sharks for sure are OUT on Babcock. Sharks focused on long list of other candidates right now
