Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was on the verge of the best season of his career before a cross-check from Florida Panthers defenseman Alex Petrovic put him out of action with a fractured left clavicle.

Initially, the injury was going to keep Kane out of action for 12 weeks, but the right-winger has been skating and his progress is looking good according to head coach Joel Quenneville.

"There’s been excellent progress," Quenneville told Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago when asked if the 12-week diagnosis had changed. "It could be good news. We’ll see."

Kane had surgery on the clavicle on Feb. 25 and has been a major loss to a Blackhawks lineup that is fighting for playoff positioning, but the team doesn't want to rush their superstar back into action.

"Not to get too technical on the injury itself, but coming off an injury, the physicality part is always a test," Quenneville said. "That’s all part of it."

Prior to his injury the 26-year-old had 27 goals and 37 assists in 61 games.
