Jordin Tootoo may act tough on the ice, delivering body-rocking checks while playing at a furious pace, but he has a soft side for his home and family.

Tootoo pays tribute to his deceased brother Terence, who took his own life Aug. 28, 2002, in this touching video produced by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for suicide awareness.

The 32-year-old New Jersey Devils forward speaks briefly about his addiction to alcohol and what it meant to him to overcome the problem. He also thanks his father for helping him become the person he is today.

The forward is in his 11th NHL season and has earned 148 points in 598 games.
