Nathan MacKinnon enjoyed scoring his first goal in over a month so much, he added two more during Sunday's game for his first career hat trick.

The Colorado Avalanche forward began in the first period, when he carried the puck from his own blue line and split the Tampa Bay Lightning defense before firing a backhand shot past Andrei Vasilevskiy for his first tally since Jan. 17. MacKinnon scored again 3:10 into the second period when he redirected Ryan O'Reilly's shot past Vasilevskiy.

The 19-year-old became the youngest Avalanche player to record a hat trick (third-youngest if you count the franchise's time as the Quebec Nordiques) 10 minutes later with a wrist shot on a rush to restore Colorado's two-goal advantage.

MacKinnon has 12 goals and 36 points in his sophomore season, down from the 24-goal, 63-point rookie campaign that earned him the Calder Trophy in 2014.
