It didn't take much time before Matt Hackett was tested in his season debut, and he was up to the task.
Vancouver Canucks forward Shawn Matthias had a lot of net to shoot at after collecting a centering pass on the doorstep in the first period, but the Buffalo Sabres' netminder stretched across the crease to knock the puck out of mid air.
Unfortunately for Hackett, the rest of his night did not go as smoothly. He appeared to be in some discomfort after making a save on a play that led to Vancouver's first goal late in the first period and allowed three more as the Sabres lost their 14th consecutive game.
