Fantasy - WireTap: 3 players to watch on the wire

Jean-Yves Ahern / USA Today

Every Sunday, we examine 3 players you should consider picking up from the waiver wire in your pool.

Are the Buffalo Sabres fantasy-relevant? The Sabres entered this season as a non-factor with a pair of unproven netminders and the most anemic offense in the league. Their leading scorer from last season - Cody Hodgson - has just four points in 29 games. Yet Buffalo is 9-3-0 since the middle of November, and its All-Star vote leader Zemgus Girgensons isn't the only reason why.

We have a couple Sabres to consider this week, as well as a forward on another overlooked team, but first, a look at the NHL's top 10 scoring leaders.

Player Points
Tyler Seguin - Stars 38
Jakub Voracek - Flyers 37
Evgeni Malkin - Penguins 36
Sidney Crosby - Penguins 35
Steven Stamkos - Lightning 34
Claude Giroux - Flyers 34
Ryan Getzlaf - Ducks 33
Vladimir Tarasenko - Blues 32
Rick Nash - Rangers 30
Phil Kessel - Maple Leafs 30
Tyler Johnson - Lightning 30
Mark Giordano - Flames 30
Nicklas Backstrom - Capitals 30

Here are three players to consider picking up heading into week 10.

Sabres F Tyler Ennis: 8 goals, 13 assists, -7, 68 SOG

Owned in 13 percent of Yahoo Leagues

Tyler Ennis is one of those players who has never lived up to the promise of his elite skill level. His 49-point rookie season in 2010-11 remains his high-water mark. It's possible the 25-year-old has reached his potential after nearly 300 career NHL games. Ennis is still capable of going on hot streaks, though, the most recent of which (five points in his last three games) vaulted him into the Sabres scoring lead. Buffalo plays four times this week and Ennis will most likely be heavily involved in any scoring.

Sabres G Jhonas Enroth: 9 wins, 2.91 GAA, .918 Save %

Owned in 35 percent of Yahoo Leagues

The beginning of the season was not a safe time to have Jhonas Enroth on your fantasy roster. His struggles mirrored Buffalo's, with one win in his first 10 starts and a goals-against average above 3. Yet he is now benefiting from the Sabres' recent run. Enroth is 4-1-0 in December with a 2.36 GAA and .929 save percentage. He has started nine of Buffalo's last 10 contests. The heavy workload might be wearing him down (Enroth allowed three goals in each of his last two appearances), but he still provides value in net - as long as the Sabres are winning.

Senators F Mika Zibanejad: 8 goals, 6 assists, -2, 50 SOG

Owned in 9 percent of Yahoo Leagues

The Ottawa Senators are only three points ahead of the Sabres at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, but young talent like Mika Zibanejad should keep them on your fantasy radar. The 21-year-old is putting his sluggish start behind him, with eight points in his last six games, including his first career four-point performance last Sunday. Zibanejad was held off the scoresheet on Thursday, but still provided value by firing seven shots on goal. His strong play has led to an increase in time on ice, and the former sixth-overall pick looks ready to take the next step in his development with moves like this:
