Bruins GM Chiarelli: Boychuk 'was upset' about trade to Islanders
Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli met with defenseman Johnny Boychuk Saturday to tell him he was on his way to the New York Islanders and, according to Chiarelli, Boychuk was not pleased.
"He was upset," Chiarelli told reporters. "I was upset, I'm still upset."
The Bruins traded Boychuk to the Islanders for a second-round draft pick in 2015, a second-round choice in 2016 and a conditional third-rounder in 2015.
"This is a tough trade. We all like Johnny," Chiarelli said. "(But) I feel we got very valuable return. We can use those picks to draft players or acquire players."
Boychuk, a seven-year veteran who spent six seasons with the Bruins, is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end.
