The New York Islanders have reportedly placed 2010 third-round draft pick Kirill Kabanov on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, according to TVA's Renaud Lavoie.
The Memorial Cup winning forward tantalized with his skill during his major junior career, but never really managed to be a productive presence even at the AHL level. He split time last season between Modo of the SHL, the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL (with whom he managed just three assists in 16 games).
