This Day in Hockey History
2011 - Bruins win Stanley Cup in Vancouver
Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand score two goals apiece as the Boston Bruins come out on top of a hotly contested Final series with the Vancouver Canucks to win their first Stanley Cup since 1972.
The win caps off one of the more memorable Stanley Cup Finals in recent memory; the Bruins come back from a 2-0 hole while rallying around an injury that knocks Nathan Horton out of the series and dominating Roberto Luongo on home ice before raising the Cup in Vancouver.
Regrettably, the Bruins' win sparks a major riot in the streets of downtown Vancouver.
1993 - Red Wings hire Bowman

Detroit hires legendary head coach Scotty Bowman, a winner of six Stanley Cup behind the bench.
The move pays off for the Red Wings, who go on to win three Cups during his tenure (1997, 1998, 2002), the last of which was Bowman's final game as a coach in the NHL.
1993 - Mighty Ducks get their wings
After being awarded a conditional franchise in December of 1992, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim officially received their NHL membership.
The team wins 33 games in its inaugural season, trying the Florida Panthers for the record for most wins in an expansion year.
Here's a look at their first NHL game, a 7-2 loss to the Red Wings.
