Capitals' Laich not a buyout candidate, according to agent
Brooks Laich's agent believes the Washington Capitals will not use their final compliance buyout on his client, telling CSN Washington he has "not heard one whisper" about it.
In fact, Roly Thompson sees Laich as a key component to a team that it not as far off as people may think, even after a disappointing 2013-14.
(Laich) is the glue of the team. He’s the guy in the dressing room that’s the leader and when he’s not there or injured, things tend to not be as cohesive. So, if there is one guy you would not want to let go it would be Brooks.
Yes, he’s had some injury difficulties with the groin and they can kind of drive you crazy because they are recurring. But he has had the operation that has permanently fixed it and he’s as excited as all get out to go back to Washington. The last time he talked to me, he said, ‘Roly, we’re not as far off as many people think.’
Thompson, however, can't fully close the door on the possibility: "I’d be very surprised, but things happen in hockey.”
Laich would need to pass a physical prior to being bought out, and has not been asked to do so by the team.
