Red Wings clinch playoff berth for 23rd straight season

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Red Wings tied their game Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins with 1:15 to go in the third period - courtesy of Tomas Jurco - thereby forcing overtime and clinching an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

2013-14 marks the 23rd season in a row that Detroit has qualified for the postseason.

The playoff spot is even more remarkable when one considers that both Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have missed significant chunks of the season.

What is yet to be determined is whether Detroit can hold off the Columbus Blue Jackets for the first wild card spot.
