Weiss (sports hernia) is expected to go on a conditioning stint at AHL Grand Rapids during the break in the NHL schedule for the Winter Olympics, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis:
Weiss, who hasn't played since Dec. 10 after undergoing sports hernia surgery, will practice with the Red Wings leading up to the break before joining his old junior club to continue working out thereafter. He would then be sent out on a conditioning stint once NHL teams resume practicing Feb. 19, likely requiring two games in the minors to prepare for a return to the lineup. Prior to suffering the injury, Weiss had been an extreme disappointment for the Red Wings, supplying just four points over 24 games.
