Ducks trade Gibson to Red Wings

The Anaheim Ducks traded goaltender John Gibson to the Detroit Red Wings for Petr Mrazek, a fourth-round pick in 2026, and a second-round pick in 2027, the teams announced Saturday.

Gibson has two seasons remaining on his contract at a $6.4-million cap hit. There is no salary retention in the trade, notes Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

Gibson has been involved in trade rumors for years but was finally moved after a bounce-back campaign in which he posted a .911 save percentage in 29 games. The 31-year-old posted a combined .921 save percentage over the first six seasons of his career, but that's dipped to a .901 mark since 2019-20. He's dealt with several injuries in recent campaigns.

The Ducks will hand starting duties to Lukas Dostal with Gibson no longer in the fold. Dostal, 25, ranked ninth among all goaltenders in goals saved above expected this past season, according to Evolving-Hockey.

Mrazek was traded to Detroit by the Chicago Blackhawks last season. He registered a 12-21-2 record with an .891 save percentage between the two clubs and has one year remaining on his contract at a $4.25-million cap hit.

The Ducks have been one of the most active teams in the early stages of the NHL offseason. They acquired Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers and dealt Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers.
